Maryland divorce law has changed. If you and your spouse sign a Separation Agreement resolving all issues between you, and you have no minor children, you can file for divorce immediately. (Previously, you would have had to be separated for a year before filing.) Both of you have to appear in Court for the divorce, but you no longer need an independent third party witness.
Another major change in Maryland divorce law concerns residency. If the grounds for your divorce occurred outside the State of Maryland, you now only have to be a Maryland resident for six months, instead of a year, before being able to file for divorce.
