SECURING YOUR FINANCES DURING DIVORCE
Divorce can be incredibly stressful and emotionally draining. If you are going through a divorce currently or think divorce may be around the corner, it is very important to plan for your financial well-being. Here are a few things you should be doing:
- Learning what marital property means
We’ll help you out with this one! Marital property is anything that was acquired during your marriage. Your house, car(s), bank accounts, personal property. Non-marital property is anything you owned before your marriage and kept separate, anything you inherited and kept separate, and anything you were gifted and kept separate.
- Making a budget
It’s very important to consider what your financial needs are now, and what they may be in the future. If you don’t have a budget already, try making one.
- Seeing a lawyer
When you start thinking about divorce, have a consultation with a lawyer. Discussing your individual situation, getting questions answered, and learning about the process will be a tremendous help. Regardless of how amicable your divorce may be, having an attorney by your side will help make sure your interests are protected.
BELIEVE IT OR DON’T!
- A roofing company in Florida will give you an AR-15 and a frozen turkey if you purchase a new roof from them.
- New York City was named 2023’s best city for vampires.
- The Canadian government recently paid consultants nearly $700,000 for advice on how to save money on consultants.
- A man in Pennsylvania was arrested for operating a tractor while under the influence. 17 minutes later, he was arrested again for the same offense.
- A journalist in Australia named her newborn “Methamphetamine Rules.”
- A man in Massachusetts was sentenced to two years in jail for purchasing an alpaca farm using COVID relief funds. He couldn’t pull the wool over the Feds’ eyes!
