We hope you are enjoying the summer, and staying out of the heat. This summer, we are celebrating Bienstock Law’s 40th anniversary!

Work at a general practice firm is intense, but immensely rewarding.  We could not have gotten here without you, and we thank you for continuing to put your trust in us.

As you know, we are here for “wherever life leads you.”

Your attorneys,

New Laws in Maryland

On July 1, 2024, a number of new laws went into effect in Maryland. Here are some to be aware of:

  • The definition of “disability” has been broadened to include more physical and mental impairments for rehabilitative services.
  • The penalty for an employer not having worker’s compensation insurance has increased to $25,000.
  • Family member caregivers may be eligible for expense assistance.
  • Public library employees can now unionize.
  • If you were wrongly convicted of a crime, the State may now have to pay you.
  • Assisted living facilities are now subject to a “Resident’s Bill of Rights.”
  • Employers can’t retaliate against employees who complain or testify against them.
  • By the end of 2026, every county in Maryland will have outpatient mental health treatment programs.
  • Vaping is now prohibited on public transportation and in certain public indoor areas.
  • Some inherited property may now be exempt from certain property taxes.

BELIEVE IT OR DON’T!

  • American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one (1) olive from each salad served in first-class.
  • Walt Disney was actually afraid of mice.
  • Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
